My name is Piotr Lewczuk. I am professor of neuroscience, clinical neurochemist, and licensed physician with more than 30 years of experience
in the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) research, mostly focusing on the neurochemical diagnostics of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). My two major achievements were
introduction of the CSF Amyloid β 42/40 (Aβ42/40) Ratio into the panel of the routine AD biomarkers, which has meanwhile become a
worldwide standard, and development of the AD biomarkers interpretation algorithm, known as the Erlangen Score. I work at the Department of Psychiatry of
the Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, where I lead the Lab for Clinical Neurochemistry and Neurochemical Dementia Diagnostics.
On top of that, I am also biostatistician, with the Master of Science degree in Statistics and Data Science obtained from the Hasselt University,
one of the most prestigious centers for biostatistics in Europe. A combination of three decades of working experience in neuroscience and biomedicine
with solid fundaments in probability theory and statistics leads to an obvious synergistic effect when it comes to understanding problems
arising in statistical analyses and mathematical modelling in medicine and biology. It is often said that physicians and natural scientists
speak one language while statisticians speak another. I dare say I speak both.
I would be happy if I could help you in planning, controlling, analyzing, and reporting your projects. I am offering advanced statistical
analyses and modelling in a very broadly defined field of natural sciences. Support in analyses and visualizations of results for scientific
papers and presentations, master's and doctoral theses, and grant reports are of particular relevance. At your disposal are:
- "Classic" frequentist methods, including hierarchical and longitudinal models;
- Bayesian statistics, including Bayesian (Gereralized) Linear Mixed Models;
- Modelling with (penalized) splines;
- Supervised and unsupervised machine learning;
- Modelling with differential equations;
- Non-Linear Mixed Models;
- Working experience in R, Python, SQL, LaTeX and Stata® when it comes to programming and software applications;
- I offer one-day (online) workshops on different aspects of probability theory and statistics "not only for neuroscientists".
You can find a sample of my work in my master's thesis. And if you enjoy mathematical puzzles, perhaps you will like my small paper on the famous Buffon's Needle Problem :)
